Visakhapatnam: If all goes as per plans, the Andhra Pradesh government will celebrate the Independence Day on August 15 in Vizag, which is the biggest city in the state. The district administration and police officials have been contemplating in this matter for past few days and a few venues such as Andhra University grounds, Police Barrack grounds and the RK Beach were earmarked.
Sources in the police said that the government has decided to hold the parade at the RK Beach where police commemoration Day is held every year. A dress rehearsal was held on Thursday morning at the RK Beach and it was reviewed by DCP (Zone-II) Dr G. Ramgopal Naik. In 2014, the I-Day parade was held in Kurnool, which was the capital of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh in the fifties and the salute was taken by the Chief Minister N. Chan-drababu Naidu at the Police Parade grounds.
A senior police officer on condition of anonymity said that the I-Day had always been held in Hyderabad and after division of the state, AP government wants to celebrate the I-Day parade in Andhra Pradesh only. Source also said that nearly 12 contingents drawn from AP Special Police, Armed Reserve, civil police and other elite forces are likely to be part of the contingent.
