ThiruvananthapuramWith the second round of  allotment to medical courses scheduled for July 27,  the fate of many medical colleges hangs in the balance as they have been  denied MCI recognition.

The P.K. Das Medical College in Palakkad and D.M. Institute of Medical Sciences in Wayanad, which had moved the Supreme Court  against the MCI refusal to grant them recognition,  were asked by the apex  court to approach  the High Court.   A division bench presided over  by Justice M.Y. Iqbal  on Tuesday criticised the colleges for approaching the Supreme Court directly.

The other medical colleges which have not received MCI recognition include  Al-Azhar Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital, Thodupuzha, Mount Zion Medical College, Chayalode, Ezhamkulam, Adoor, Pathanamthitta, Sri Gokulam Medical College Trust and Research Foundation, Thiruvananthapuram, KMCT Medical College, Kozhikode, Kannur Medical College and Malabar Medical College, Kozhikode.

They will not be included in the next round of allotment also as they have not entered into an agreement with the government. Though options were invited to all the four colleges under Inter-Church Council (ICC) in the first round, allotment was not made to Amala Medical College, Jubilee Mission Medical College and Pushpagiri Medical College due to lack of  MCI  documents.   They are likely to be included in the second round.

The Cooperative Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram,  was also not included in that allotment. The only self-financing college to find a place in the allotment is the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Pariyaram. Meanwhile, the third allotment to engineering and architecture courses in 2015 was published on Tuesday.
