Veteran Telugu actress T Kanakam passes away

She has acted in more than 80 Telugu films

People pay floral tributes to actress T. Kanakam who passed away on Tuesday.
VIJAYAWADA: Yesteryear Telugu actress T Kanakam breathed her last at her residence in city on Tuesday. She was 85 and had been suffering from illness since long. Starting with stage plays at the very young age, Kanakam also acted with veteran stars like NT Rama Rao,  A Nageswara Rao and others. 
 
A native of Kharagpur, she was born to railway employee Appa Rao and Cholapuramma in 1930. She had been to many places before finally settling in Vijayawada. 
At the age of eleven she entered into stage plays and performed in hundreds of plays across the state. 
 
She is known for her male roles of Duryodhana, Lord Krishna, Arujna and others. She acted in over 80 films in Telugu. Kanakam, who was also a good singer, performed for Akasavani. 
 
She started acting in Telugu movies with movie Gruhapravesam in 1946 and went on to act in Brahammaradam, Gunasundari Katha, Keelugurram, Raksharekha, Swavukaru, Pathala Bairavi, Letha Manasulu, Baktha Prahlada and others. 
 
Her last movie was Drohi produced by D Ramanaidu in 1970. She also received Nandi Award and NTR award in 2004. Tahsildar R Siva Rao, MLA Sk Jaleel Khan and others took part in the cremation ceremony of the actress.
