Tumkuru: After visiting the houses of deceased farmers in his home district, Tumakuru, KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar has suggested that farmers’ short-term loans be converted into long term-loans to alleviate their distress.

He has also recommended the transfer of loans to nationalized banks or co-operative institutions to stop the pressure by money-lenders, a halt to the recovery of loans given to farmers at least for a year and filing of criminal cases against money-lenders, who have charged exorbitant rates of interest.

Asked whether the Congress government would consider providing jobs to the kin of deceased farmers instead of providing compensation, he said the government would think over what best could be done. Denying that the government had neglected farmers, he appealed to the opposition not to politicize the issue and co-operate with the government in finding solutions.

Dr Parameshwar visited the house of deceased farmer Halappa at Nandiahalli in Tumakuru taluk, deceased Vedamurthy’s house at Kone Madenahalli in Gubbi taluk and the house of deceased farmer Rangaswamy at Narayankere in Hebbur hobli, Tumakuru taluk .
