Rajahmundry: A top cop has revealed that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was present at the time of the stampede. He left after confirming 11 deaths at the main Pushkar ghat at Rajahmundry on the first day of the Godavari Maha Pushkarams.

Superintendent of police G. Vijay Kumar was posted at the Pushkar ghat when the stampede took place and had informed Mr Naidu of the incident. Mr Kumar said he had first hinted about the mishap and said that there were four deaths. A shocked Mr Naidu asked him to confirm the deaths.

Then the cop confirmed the number as 11. Immediately after, Mr Naidu directed officials to take necessary action while he himself left the place.
