BENGALURU: The Rammurthynagar police on Saturday arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl on Thursday.

The arrested has been identified as Muniraj, son of Krishanappa, hailing from Kolar. He was working as a carpenter. The incident took place on July 16 in an under construction building. The victim’s parents, who hail from Kalaburagi, were living in that building.

According to the police, the victim’s father, who works as a watchman, told the police that on Thursday around 5.30 pm, the accused Muniraju, who was working in the building, took the girl to a room under the pretext of giving a chocolate and committed the crime.

The incident came to light when the victim complained of abdominal pain to her mother on Friday and began crying incessantly. The victim’s mother grew suspicious and when she asked the girl, she narrated the ordeal. Infuriated over this the victim’s parents informed the building contractor on Saturday. He called the accused Muniraju and handed him over to the police.

The accused has been booked under section 376 of IPC and under section 3 and 4 of POCSO Act. The Rammurthynagar police have sent the minor for medical test and are awaiting reports.
