KarimnagarWith multiple ancient shrines and historical sites on the shores of Godavari, Karimnagar district is set to be the most-sought-after destination to several lakhs of devotees from different states for taking a holy dip during the river fete.

According to district authorities, over 20 lakh of devotees participate in the mega event per day. The district houses many ancient temples right on the banks Godavari.
The prominent shrines include Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Dharmapuri, Sri Kaleshwara-Mukthe-shwara Swamy adobe in Kaleshwaram village of Mahadevapur mandal and Sri Gouthameshwara Swamy shrine near Manthani. Apart from this, several shrines   are situated on the fringes of the river which flows through district for 283 km.

The importance of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple of Dharmapuri is that the Godavari river flows from north to south direction unlike west to east in all other places. This is considered as a sacred occurrence.
This town is one of the nine Narasimha Kshet-rams spread across India.
Lord Narasimha Swamy is found in two forms: Yoga and Ugra.

Kaleshwaram is one of Thrilinga Kshetrams, land of three lingams (idol form of Lord Shiva). The other two are Draksharamam and Srisailam. It is popularly regarded as Southern Gangotri and is located near the confluence of three rivers Godavari, Pranahita and mystic Saraswati.

This temple is significant because of the two lingas found on a single pedestal namely Lord Shiva and Lord Yama. They are collectively known as Kaleshwara Muktheswara Swamy.According to an inscription of Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya at Dwarakapeetam and Pushpagiri Peetam, Adi Shankara had visited Mantrakootam, now known as Manthani, during early sixth century BC and praised the Vedic customs and Vedic literacy of the people of this place.

In addition to the temples, historical Kotilingala village of Velgaturu mandal is also located on the banks of Godavari. Kotilingala was the maiden capital of Shatavahana kings. This time, Kotilingala is likely to see a heavy rush of devotees due to its historical significance and availability of abundance of backwaters belonging to Yellampalli irrigation project.
