Chennai: The DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Saturday sought an explanation from the ruling AIADMK on the delay in tabling the report of Justice Raghupathi commission of inquiry that probed the infamous Mouliwakkam building collapse tragedy that claimed 61 lives in June 2014.

Referring to the constitution of the commission and submission of the report by judge Raghupathi on August 25, 2014, Karunanidhi, in a statement, said the report should be tabled within six months from the date of receipt by the government in the Parliament or Assembly as per section 3 (IV) of 1952 Act on Commission of Inquiries.

Four months have lapsed since the February 25, 2015 deadline, but the report has not been tabled in the House so far, he pointed out, adding that a doubt has arisen as to whether the report will be valid if it is tabled after the deadline stipulated in the Act. Asserting that the ruling AIADMK is answerable, Karunanidhi wondered as to what the state government has to say on the failure to table the report within the time stipulated in the Act.
