THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Close on the heels of the government decision to cull ‘dangerous’ dogs, Animal Welfare Board of India chairman R.M. Kharb has written to CM Oommen Chandy to hold the decision till the special Supreme Court bench comes out with a final verdict on bringing amendments to the existing rules.

Mr Kharb  stated that the decision taken by the state is ‘unlawful’ and in violation of the restraint orders passed by the SC against all such orders passed by the HC after December 2008. Several petitions from various parties relating to stray dogs are under consideration before the SC.

On June 30, the AWBI had written a similar letter to CS Jiji Thom-son in the wake of the recommendations that there were no legal impediment in killing of dangerous strays.
