LDF for court-monitored probe
The Opposition also decided to implead itself in the case
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF on Thursday demanded reinvestigation into the bar bribe case under the direct supervision of court.
The Opposition also decided to implead itself in the case. This was disclosed by LDF convenor Vaikom Viswan after a meeting presided by Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan.
He alleged that the investigation into the case had been derailed by the government to save finance minister K. M. Mani.
The convenor said the LDF would take legal recourse for seeking a court-monitored reinvestigation into the case. “We are in the process of seeking opinion of legal experts,” he said.
Mr Viswan said the Opposition agitation against Mani had not been called off. “We will mobilise the people at different levels to seek the resignation of tainted ministers,” he added.
On the textbook issue, the LDF convenor accused the government of using brute police force to curb SFI-DYFI agitation.
The Opposition has decided to launch a strong protest across the state against police brutality. As part of the stir, torchlight protest demonstrations will be held at the panchayat level on July 11.
The LDF will also organise dharnas from 5 pm to 7 pm in each Assembly segment on July 20 as part of the all-India agitation against rampant corruption at the centre and in the state.
Mr Viswan criticised the political intervention in ward delimitation activities being carried out in connection with the coming local bodies poll. He demanded the extension of the date for enrolment of names which has now been fixed as July 15.
He said Akshya Centres meant for enrolment of names were charging Rs 20 and more. The government should make arrangements for enrolment of names in voters list free of cost, he demanded.
