After the birth of his son on his birthday, May 19, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a very happy man these days. Says the second-time father, “I already have a daughter and I do not have a gender bias. What if a son turns out to be a nalayak? Then what’s the use of having a son? These days, girls are independent; they are working and can help their parents financially or look after them. I still take care of my parents, though they are well off.”

Talking about his daughter, he says, “She hates to see me being thrashed by anyone on screen. She got angry with Salman bhai when he made me fly in the air in Kick. However, she liked my performance in Gangs of Wasseypur because I was thrashing others. We have told her that I am not really getting hurt but she refuses to believe me. She says, ‘Mere papa ko nahi marna hai’.”

About his acting career, he says, “I feel insecure while playing any character. I always ponder on how to enact the character. When I had no work, I would travel a lot. It was then that I tried to imbibe the qualities of the people I came across and this helped me give my best to the characters I portray. I don’t think there is a more insecure actor than me.”
Nawazuddin says that he has a lot of respect for Salman Khan and SRK.

“Salman is one actor who is fully secure. I remember in Kick and in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, many a times he gave away his punch lines to me. For him the film has to be brilliant, he does not care about other things. Another star who is also very secure is Shah Rukh Khan.” Having worked with SRK in Raees as a cop, he adds, “I find both Salman and SRK  to be very grounded and humble actors. I have worked with them, but I do not think that any camps exist.”

He further adds, “I surely romance Salman-style,” he says, adding, “Do you remember Amol Palekar? I would like to perform like him. Romance in real life has no place for me right now.” Coming back to Salman, we ask whether he has picked up any flirting tricks from the superstar. “I have never seen Salman flirt. I share a great bond with him, having worked in two films together, I feel he is engrossed in his work more than anything.”

Asked about rumours of him having a live-in relationship, Nawazuddin brushes it aside. “My wife is very confident about me not getting entangled in any affairs. Of course, I do give her a sense of security. I have two lovely kids and I love to spend time with them after finishing my shoots. I am not a party bug either. I am a home bird, actually.” Talking about the films that he would like to be part of he says, “I would love to do a biopic on Dada Kondke. I have seen his films Andheri Raat Mein Diya Tere Haat Mein and a few others. I want to do a comedy role like his. I have grown up watching his films. But I will not produce the biopic… meri aukat nahi hai. However, I wish somebody would come to me with this proposal.”

Like Salman, Nawazuddin is also all praises for child artiste Harshalli in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. “It is really difficult to act alongside little children. She is a meticulous performer. We grown-ups have to try to be real while kids are just natural. We feel humbled in their presence.”
