Clean up venue after public meet: BBMP
Failure to do so would result in forfeiture of the security deposit
Bengaluru: BBMP has issued notification directing the organisers of public meeting to keep the venues clean, make arrangements for portable toilets and mobile garbage bins, or face penalty.
According to the notification, Ministry of Urban Development Department has issued Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) to ensure cleanliness during public gatherings. Based on these parameters, the BBMP under section 256 and 257 of KMC Act has framed guidelines on mode of waste management during public gatherings.
It is often noticed that surroundings are littered with left-over food, water-bottles, used flowers, packaging material and wrappers. To ensure cleanliness after the event at all public places such as Freedom Park, Palace Grounds, open grounds, parks, streets and public utility lands belonging to BBMP, the Palike has issued guidelines to organisers.
They have been directed to obtain permission by paying refundable security deposit in the form of DD (Rs 50,000 for gathering up to 5,000 people; Rs 1 lakh for 5,000 to 10,000 people, Rs 2 lakh for 10,000 to 25,000 people and Rs 3 lakh for above 25,000 people. Processing fees equivalent to 10 per cent of security deposit shall be paid towards receiving waste at BBMP processing sites. This amount is non-refundable.
Organisers have been directed to make arrangement for transportation of waste accumulated to the nearest waste processing location designated by the BBMP within two hours of the end of event at their own cost. The details of designated waste disposal locations will be indicated in the permission letter. Failure to do so would result in forfeiture of the security deposit.
