Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan showered praise on Nizamabad TRS MP K. Kavitha on Tuesday in a gaffe-ridden centenary celebration ceremony of the Vivek Vardhini Education Society here.

A galaxy of top politicians turned up for the event, but often misaddressed themselves in the event which was marred by a power outage. Union minister of state for labour Bandaru Dattatreya, twice misaddressed Lok Sabha Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan as Sushma Swaraj leaving the audience in splits.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan also referred to AP Legislative Council chairman, Dr A. Chakrapani as the Speaker of the AP Assembly, leaving him red-faced. There was minor embarrassment for the organisers of the event as well as the power supply was disrupted as soon as all the guests took their places on the stage. So much so that TS Assembly Speaker, S. Madhusudhan Chary said he was surprised at the power cut considering the state has not been witnessing outages courtesy the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The Vivek Vardhini Education Society completed 100 years in Hyderabad. In her address, the Speaker, Mahajan called Kavitha an astute politician with a keen sense of observation. She also commended the Society for completing 100 years and said exercise is important for women.
