VijayawadaElectric lines and other cables including internet and cable TV wires dangling on the roadside from poles pose danger not only to residents but also to passersby. The high tension electric lines are passing through several residential areas in the city.

Similarly, several cable TV operators are utilising the electric poles illegally due to which cable wires run parallel to power cables. Power department and municipal officials have failed to take action against the erring cable operators and also the linesmen despite recent incidents of six deaths in the city.

According to reports, in the two incidents, six people were electrocuted during one week. Electric lines are passing adjacent to several residential colonies but the electricity department turns a blind eye.

“The electricity department should encase electric lines with pipes to avoid danger but officials have done nothing, resulting in the recent deaths. It may be recalled that YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has also asked the electricity department as to why they did not cover the electric lines with plastic pipes.

Wires are seen exposed in all the electric poles in the city. Cable operators and Internet service providers are also using the poles in several colonies in city. P. Venkata Subbaiah who is a resident of LIC colony said that the people face inconvenience and panic from the exposed dangling wires.
