At a recent book launch, Arjun Kapoor revealed that he had an untold story which he would definitely write one day.

On trying his hand at writing:

“I tried writing because I wanted to be a director, but I wasn’t very good at it,” says Arjun, adding, “My mind seemed to run much faster than my hand. I thought of too many things which didn’t make sense in terms of a character, I just wanted to encompass everything in one script.”

On young writers:

“The industry has now realised the value of good writers…writing is the backbone of any good film. There was a phase in cinema when a lot of things got lost…we tried to put in the masala ingredient, maybe even in the writing. But I do foresee a bright phase for writers who want to take chances. The reason cinema is doing well now is because writers are being supported now.”

Arjun adds that he does not read much. “I don’t have a voracious appetite for reading books… I read scripts. I still haven’t read 2 States despite playing the protagonist’s character. Although I always thought Alexander Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo would make for an interesting Hindi film.”

On inspiration:

“I don’t think you need a particular thing or genre to be inspired. Christopher Nolan once said that he was inspired by The Tale Of Two Cities while making Inception. The fact that The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter have been turned into films, it all stems from literature. ”

On writers and directors:

“They are evolved species compared to actors who only fulfill one role. Directors and writers have the ability to create a new world altogether.”
