Insects found in ‘planned milk drink’

ALAPPUZHA: Not only noodles, but also health drinks may be hazardous to your health.  A consumer in Chengannur has found to his horror that the bottle of Complan he had bought from a shop contained beetles and worms.

The customer,  S. Shiju,  has sent a legal notice  to H. J. Heinz company, a British brand  that produces Complan, the  ‘planned milk drink.’

The bottle costing Rs 235 with lot number G231790  and weighing 450 gms  was purchased  on Tuesday. The date of manufacture was printed  as March this year.

“When we opened the sealed cover, countless insects  were found in the food.  I have sent legal notices to all the main administrative offices in India mentioned on the bottle cover,”  he said. Mr Joseph George, counsel, said  further  action would be taken after receiving the response from the company.

Mr Joseph Shaji George, chief  food safety officer in the district,  said all the bottles  in the same series would be checked for contamination.
