IIIT aspirants look for clarity

State announces IIIT to start from this year

AnantapurCandidates aiming to join IIIT courses at Kurnool are confused as there were no arrangements to start the classes from the current academic year. The counselling schedule was announced for Idupulapaya IIIT in Kadapa district and also at Nuzvid IIIT in Krishna district and classes were to begin from August 1, but there is no clarity about IIIT at Kurnool.
 
The government on Wednesday announced the schedule for the first phase of counselling would be held for admissions into IIIT at Idupulapaya, Nuzvid and also Basar in Telangana, on July 22 and 23 and second phase of counselling on July 27.
 
The list of selected candidates was also announced. The varsity authorities were making necessary steps to conduct the counselling process. The government had earlier announced that IIIT classes would begin from the current year and the district administration also identified a private college located in Nandyal road to accommodate students temporarily till completion of buildings. About 500 acres of land was also identified for establishment of the institute. 
 
The Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and HRD minister Ganta Sreenivasa Rao had earlier announced that Kurnool IIIT campus would commence from the current academic year. A senior district official observed that the administration had identified temporary accommodation to run the institute along with hostel facility for the students for first year.
 
“But, there was no clarity from the government. We are ready to run the institute for current year,” the official said.  They added huge demand was being witnessed for IIIT courses from the parents of rural students in the region.
