Rs 30 lakh reduced to ashes in Andhra Bank fire

The bank customers and staff fled for safety

GUNTURCurrency notes worth between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh were reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out in the Andhra Bank branch at Bose Road in Chilakaluripeta of Guntur district on Tuesday. There were no reports of casualties.
 
The flames are believed to have erupted in the storeroom and spread swiftly to branch manager’s cabin, and soon after engulfed the two cash counters and other furniture at around 11.45 am. The bank customers and staff fled for safety. The bank staff informed the police and fire services who rushed to the spot, but struggled to enter due to heavy smoke.
