KOCHI: Former CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that there was no need for a fresh probe by a new agency into the solar scam.

Deposing before the Justice Sivarajan Commission probing the solar scandal on Tuesday, Pinarayi said that the demand made by Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan for a CBI probe was not the opinion of the CPM.

The roles of Saritha Nair, Biju Radhakrishnan, Teny Joppan and Shalu Menon were under the investigation of the special investigation team while the judicial commission was probing the role of the chief minister and others. In such a situation, there was no need for a fresh probe by a new agency, Pinarayi said.

The party was not aware of the details of the writ petition filed by Achuthanandan in the high court demanding a CBI probe.

The position taken by VS in this matter was not that of the party, he said. The CPM had decided not to cooperate with the judicial commission when the chief minister and his office were excluded from the purview of the commission. When the commission had brought them under the purview of the investigation, the party decided to cooperate with the probe panel, Pinarayi said.

Pinarayi blamed Oommen Chandy for converting the chief minister’s office into a den for criminal activities and added that Chandy was behind Saritha making changes in the 21-page letter written by her earlier.
