Hyderabad: The AP government wants to introduce amphibious vessels at the four inland water routes on the Krishna and the Godavari as part of its initiative to encourage eco-religious tourism.

These vehicles can travel on land and on water, and officials said they would be introduced in south India for the first time. The tourism department of Goa is said to be running these vehicles successfully.

Mr Y. Satyanarayana of the AP tourism department said the these vessels are useful to reach locations which have no jetties or berthing places for boats. A ramp or hard ground on the shore is considered sufficient for these vehicles to enter the water or climb on to land.
