Thiruvananthapuram: As the by-election campaign in Aruvikkara headed for a climax, senior Congress leader A.K. Antony on Wednesday sought to blunt the Opposition attack on the UDF government by stating that the guilty in the bargate will not be  protected. Giving a clean chit to the Oommen Chandy government, he said the Vigilance director had sought the opinion of the attorney-general and the solicitor-general appointed by the BJP government on the matter. Further action would be taken after hearing from them, he said. He also snubbed the CPM for promoting the BJP in the state.

Mr Antony, who toured  Kuttichal, Kallamam, Poovachal and Vellanad on the second day of his road show for UDF candidate K.S. Sabarinathan,  unleashed  a scathing attack on the LDF saying it was promoting fundamentalism in the state.

“The CPM’s downfall has been due to its attempt  to make  temporary gains by promoting outdated policies. This is why there has been an  exodus of CPM workers to the BJP,” he  added. He also flayed the BJP for misusing the election machinery with the help of the union government.
