Three persons of a family travelling in a car died after another car rammed their vehicle

Coimbatore: Three persons of a family travelling in a car died after another car rammed their vehicle near Madukarai on Sunday. Police said Palanisamy, 70, farmer and power loom owner, his wife Indirani, 60 and their son Senthil Kumar, 40 from Karugampalayam in Karumathampatty were on their way to Meenkulathi Bhagavathi Amman temple near Palakkad in Kerala, when the mishap happened at around 6.30 am. Their car collided head-on with another car coming from the opposite direction on the L&T Bypass road near Madukarai. 
 
In the impact, their car was thrown off several feet into the shrubby land down the road and all the three persons died on the spot. Eight persons, who were returning after a trip to Malampuzha dam, suffered simple injuries and were undergoing treatment in a private hospital.  
 
“Four persons who were seated in the front row suffered injuries, while others escaped unhurt. The mishap could have happened as it was raining and visibility was poor,” police said. 
 
On receiving information, the Madukarai police rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies of three persons in the crushed car and sent them for post mortem at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. The Madukarai police registered a case against driver M Anish Kumar and arrested him. Further investigations are on.
