BENGALURU: Popular Kannada actor Yash is in trouble as the owner of his house has accused him and his mother of not paying rent for the last three years. A city sessions court has issued notices to the actor and his mother to appear before it on June 20.

Yash and his family members are staying in a rented house on Water Tank Road in Katriguppe in Banashankari III Stage, which is owned by Dr M Muniprasad, also a resident of Katriguppe. Dr Muniprasad had filed a complaint with the Girinagar police and also approached the court recently. When the case came up for hearing on Monday, the judge issued notices to Yash and his mother Pushpa.

Dr Muniprasad has alleged that he rented his 5-BHK house to Yash’s family in October 2010 for Rs 40,000 per month. “The rent was subject to a 5 per cent hike once every 11 months. However, Yash and his mother stopped paying the rent in the beginning of 2012. Whenever I went to ask for the rent, he and his mother used to shoo me away. They have violated the terms of the contract and made many alterations inside the house. They have to pay me Rs 21.37 lakh now,” he said.

Pushpa, however, claimed that the family never refused to pay the rent. “The owner has not approached us for rent. Over the last few months, he is forcing us to vacate the house. We had taken his permission before making alterations in the house. We will clear the dues through the court.”

A film producer suspected that it could be a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the actor.
