KOCHI: The 10th edition of the monsoon soccer festival meant to promote  monsoon tourism in the state will be held at Fort Kochi Parade Ground on June 27 and 28.

Although the tourism industry is worried about the slow progress of  south-west monsoon, the  promoters of the ‘shoot the rain fest’  hopes that monsoon will pick up by the end of June.

‘Shoot the rain,’  a football extravaganza organized by the Tourism Professionals’ Club, has become an annual event in the tourism calendar of Kochi, said Ravi Varma, chairman, media committee of the event. “We hope the rains will pick up in the coming days so that we will have two days of matches marked by festivities,” he said.

Twenty-four teams from different parts of the state representing  hotels, tour operators and others connected with the sector will participate in it, he added.

The winners of the  tournament will be presented with Joseph Dominic Memorial Rolling Trophy sponsored by the CGH Earth Group.  The technical guidance for the  matches will be provided by soccer legends  Rufus D’Souza and T.A. Jaffer, Mr. Varma said.
