Bengaluru: Two arrested for prostitute’s murder
They have been accused of murdering Akhilandeshwari, aged around 30 years
BENGALURU: Two men, who mistook imitation jewels for original gold jewellery, allegedly murdered a woman and made away with the jewels. They have been arrested by the Parappana Agrahara police in this connection.
The accused have been identified as Ajay alias Ajmol, 24, and Basruddin, 45, both residents of Hebbagodi and hailing from Kerala. Ajay was a welder while Basruddin was running a bakery. They have been accused of murdering Akhilandeshwari, aged around 30 years, at her house in Channakeshavanagar off Hosa Road on May 29. The victim, a native of Tamil Nadu, was a prostitute but introduced herself as a nurse to others.
Police said that the house owner of Akhilandeshwari had found that a foul smell was emanating from her house on June 2. He informed the police who broke into the house and found her dead. A murder case was taken up and an investigation was launched.
The victim’s friend Siddayyan was questioned and he revealed that Akhilandeshwari had contact with many men and one of them could be behind the murder. He also tipped them off that for the last few months she was close to a man aged between 20 and 25 years.
“We collected information about Ajay and he was arrested in Mysuru. He led us to the arrest of the other accused. After the murder, Ajay was absconding in Mysuru and working as a welder. He revealed that he had a habit of visiting prostitutes and came in touch with Akhilandeshwari three months ago. He had seen her wearing jewels and mistook it for original gold. As both the accused were facing financial problem, they hatched a plot to murder Akhilandeshwari and rob her. Accordingly, they visited her on May 29 on the pretext of having sex with her and smothered her to death,” the police explained.
Honey-trapped
The police, who came to know that Ajay frequented prostitutes, trapped him using one. The police reportedly traced a prostitute, who was visited by Ajay often, and made her call Ajay to know about his whereabouts. She led to the arrest of the Ajay, who still does not know who tipped the police about him.
