Book by train, travel by distress flight, says IRCTC
New initiative will enable travellers to travel by flight if their tickets are on waiting
Chennai: Gone are the days when waitlisted tickets delayed or deferred train journeys. IRCTC has launched an initiative enabling travellers with waitlisted tickets to avail of last minute flight offers using their train ticket booking. Only travellers whose waitlisted train tickets are booked three days prior to the date of journey and not confirmed at the time of preparation of the chart will be eligible for the last-minute flight offer.
Eligible travellers will receive an email from IRCTC. The tickets can be booked by logging on to www.air.irctc. co.in.Payments will have to be made in full for the flight tickets. Fare of the waitlisted tickets will be refunded, as usual.
Also, names of air passengers have to be chosen from the train ticket list and no changes in the name will be allowed while booking distress flight. IRCTC has also insisted that the names should at least be two characters long to avail the distress booking facility.
