New Delhi: The already simmering row between the Centre and the Delhi government boiled over on Tuesday with the Delhi police arresting Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar on allegations that his law degree was fake. Mr Tomar was later remanded to police custody for four days by a city court.

Mr Tomar quit as minister late on Tuesday and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accepted his resignation. The Aam Aadami Party cried foul and said Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung had unleashed an “emergency-like” situation in the national capital.

Delhi Assembly  Speaker Ram Niwas Goel alleged he was not informed about the minister’s arrest even though the police refuted this.
