On hearing that director Umesh Shukla is planning to make Sanjay Dutt’s first post-incarceration film, director Sanjay Gupta immediately wrote a letter to Dutt in jail reminding the actor that he too is ready to make a film as soon as he is out. “I miss him,” says an emotional Gupta. “I can’t wait for him to be released. I’ve a script ready for him. All he has to do is be here, and we start.”

The filmmaker feels it is his right to make Dutt’s first film after his release. “Mera haq banta hai. I am very emotional about our friendship. When I read about Umesh Shukla’s plans, I immediately wrote a letter reminding Sanju that I am waiting to start my film with him.”

He has also modelled Irrfan Khan’s look in Jazbaa on Sanjay Dutt, that’s how much he says he misses his actor buddy. “Irrfan’s styling and his attitude is very much Dutt’s, though I wouldn’t say I’ve modelled Irrfan’s character on Sanju, because that would be insulting to both the actors.”
