The River Musi is so polluted that the water from it is not even fit for washing, let alone drinking

Hyderabad: The Narsingi police has detained private water tanker drivers and seized two vehicles as they were filling water from the Musi River for supplying to Miyapur, Madhapur and Hitec City areas.

K. Suresh, a resident of Narsingi, said, "Private water tanker vendors are filling water from Musi River (which is polluted) at Manchirevula, Narsingi. The water is distributed to Manikonda and other nearby areas. Every day, 40 to 50 tankers of 20,000-litre capacity are filled with polluted water and distributed all over Cyberabad. On information from other residents, a group of citizens visited these areas at around 11.30 pm. We found two water tankers being filled. On being informed, the Narsingi police detained the drivers, helpers and seized the two vehicles.”

“The activity is on only during late hours; they place a cloth at the mouth of the tanker inlet and pour the polluted water. The cloth blocks the solid waste, however, the water is still polluted and cannot be used even for washing. Citizens are requested to double-check the water and also inquire about the source,” added residents.

The Narsingi police seized the vehicles and also imposed heavy fines on the owners. “A team will be deployed at the Musi River to check on these activities. Citizens must complain to the regional mandal revenue officer if groundwater is being stolen by private water tanker vendors,” added police officials.
