BENGALURU: If you are a speed freak, beware. The cops are watching! Or are they? The city’s bikers are taking to racing on the highways at night on the weekends, throwing caution to the winds, skillfully avoiding the police dragnet, which is not so difficult, as policemen doing the rounds after midnight are few and far between.

And now there’s a twist. Young people with a yen for speed who indulge in so-called death races, illegal drag racing, speed biking, and other dangerous stunts to show-off their skills on the mean machine are choosing to place huge bets on bikers, fuelling a deadly and illegal racket in racing.

Young bikers are now approaching social media to organize races in the city with a city based student going on a social media platform to approach fellow bikers to for a night-street racing and betting event. Entry fee, Rs 10, 000.

Kevin George Johns, a student, posted a message on a group called Put Me In Touch With Bangalore, on FaceBook which stated, “Those who are in night street bike racing for bet, message me, will conduct in Bangalore itself. Rs 10,000 for participating and should have any sporty bike.” Promises to be both fast and furious!
