Govt plans big for state as international destination: CM Oommen Chandy

A total of nine new projects of the varsity were also inaugurated by various dignitaries

Kannur: Though Kerala had attained a remarkable feat as far as general education was concerned, the state was still lagging behind other states in the higher education sector, opined Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

He added that efforts should be made to attract international students to Kerala and to make the state an international destination for higher education. He was addressing the gathering after the inauguration of Kannur University headquarters at Thavakkara here on Friday.

The Chief Minister added that the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) had been given the task to study the steps that should be taken to convert the state into an international destination by attracting a large number of students from abroad.

Lauding the efforts of Kannur University to start the Directorate of International Academics, the CM said that there were a lot of opportunities to tap that the state could tap in the education sector and the universities should ensure high academic quality without compromising the quality of education being offered.

A total of nine new projects of the varsity were also inaugurated by various dignitaries including Ministers K.C Joseph and K.P Mohanan.

The projects launched during the function include Inter University Centre for Tropical Biodiversity at Mananthavady campus, single-window admission system for all UG-PG courses, Research Directorate , Directorate of  International Academics, Industry linked courses in Wood Sciences, aquatic biodiversity park, campus solar power project and ring road connecting various university buildings in the campus.
