Speaking about her upcoming film Bombay Velvet, which is set in the 1960s, Anushka Sharma says that she didn’t start off with a specific reference point, as she interprets each of her characters in a new and different way.

“I have been inspired by the fashion sense of Helen. She was personally involved in what she was wearing. I also looked up to the likes of Sharmila Tagore and Mumtaz. Moreover, the script of the film was intriguing and written with great clarity which helped us, as actors, to develop our own approach towards our roles,” says Anushka.
From her first film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Anushka has come a long way and she asserts that her prerogative has always been to choose films which would showcase her talent differently. “The characters I choose to essay help me remain relevant in the industry. It makes me feel great, that directors are approaching me with different roles, because the idea is to reinvent myself and make the audience forget what I have done in my earlier films.”

Her character in Bombay Velvet is also quite unlike what she has attempted before. “Rosie has had a difficult life and didn’t have any support from her family. Personally, I had a really protected upbringing. She was treated badly and abused as a kid, and that changes one’s outlook towards life. As far I am concerned, I haven’t regretted any decision in my life so far and it’s all part of my life and growth.”

The actress states that she is now keen on doing a biopic.  “It is easier to attempt something in sports, but I would also be very enthusiastic to play the role of an actor, but that would also need prior permission from the family as an actor’s life is so layered,” she informs.
