SwiftKey Keyboard for Android beta (5.3) update brings adaptive new keyboard layouts to the Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati and Marathi languages. These new layouts will let you write more quickly and easily in these languages. Many Indian languages do not have standard layouts that are adopted by most other keyboards.
In SwiftKey’s new layout, depending on the proceeding letters, the top row of vowels changes to become contextually relevant. In addition to SwiftKey’s core auto-correct and prediction features, this is another example of SwiftKey realizing its vision that technology should adapt to users, not the other way round.
Changes to the beta include:
- Updates to the top row of vowels so they become contextually relevant intuitive layouts for Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati and Marathi keyboards
- Numbers in both roman and local script are available on the number pad, which has also become more intuitive
- The Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi keyboards are laid out in the same way as the alphabet
- This beta update brings our total number of Indian languages to 22. This includes the 13 already in the app as well as nine additional languages: Bodo, Dogri, Kashmiri, Konkani (in both Devanagari and Kannada scripts), Maithili, Manipuri, Sanskrit, Santali and Sindhi.
The settings menu and SwiftKey Store have been completely redesigned, and are located in a new, more convenient spot. SwiftKey Hub is intended to be the center for all customization features and settings, including the SwiftKey Store, SwiftKey Cloud, interesting stats on your typing, social sharing and Support.
