In the mood for love

Irrfan Khan is known for the brooding, intense roles he plays on the big screen and has never portrayed a quintessentially romantic lover. So it didn’t come as that big a surprise to us when we heard that the talented actor had to prepare in a rather unique way for his role as the romantic lead in Piku.

“Irrfan has confessed that he’s been longing to do a romantic film for a while now. With Piku, he’s finally got that chance. Of course, his take on ‘romance’ is very different, and being a method actor, he prepared rigorously for the part. He watched lots of classic romance movies, read all the iconic romantic poems and Beethoven’s letter to his ‘Immortal Beloved’ as well — and he did all this just to get into that mindset that was required for his character.

The whole idea was take references that were in tandem with his thoughts,” a source connected to the film told us. Who would have thought romance would require such stringent homework?
