Chennai: Former Union health minister and Dharmapuri MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss has written to Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam seeking his intervention to establish AIIMS in his Dharmapuri Parliamentary constituency. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Dr Anbumani said that a 400-acre of government land is available along Chennai Bangalore Highway in Dharmapuri for setting up of the institute.

“Setting up of the AIIMS in Dharmapuri will help people living in adjacent districts like Krishnagiri, Erode, Namakkal, Salem, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai. Besides, the location of an international airport in Bengaluru will provide easy transit of medical experts from various parts of the country as well as from abroad,” he pointed out.

Following the state government’s recommendation of five sites in Chengalpet, Madurai, Pudukottai, Thanjavur and Perundurai for setting up of  AIIMS, a team of Union health ministry officials is inspecting those sites. Dr Anbumani said. “Dharmapuri should be included in the list of sites given to the health ministry team as sixth one. Since the officials are camped in the state, the state government should take up with the Centre to carry out inspection in Dharmapuri too.”
