Hyderabad: Inspector General of Police Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, who speaks Tamil, will head the Special Investigation Team to probe into Seshachalam encounter. Dr Ravi reported to the state government a few days after his deputation with National Investigation Agency ended.

He has dealt with several terror cases in South India as DIG and IG of NIA-Hyderabad. The SIT comprises seven officials including two IPS officers.

It will probe three cases — two firing incidents and attempt-to-murder booked against the dead illegal woodcutters hired by red sanders smugglers and a murder case against filed against Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force personnel. The murder case was filed by Muniammal, wife of one of the woodcutters.

Meanwhile, the police recorded Muniammal’s refusal to give a statement. A senior official said,  “No other witness is coming forward.” She had claimed that she had seen the police picking up the woodcutters from a bus station.
