ChennaiThe Tirukazhukundram police on Saturday arrested an 18-year-old boy in connection with the murder of a destitute whose body was found in the bushes near the temple on Wednesday. His arrest led the cops to his involvement in a similar case about six months ago, in which a destitute woman was found dead in the temple town in Kancheepuram district.

Cops who recovered the body on Friday found scratch marks all over her body and moved it to the Chengalpet medical college.
Investigations by the cops revealed that the woman, believed to be in her early 30s, was from Andhra Pradesh and was seen seeking alms near the Tirukazhukundram Murugan temple.
“The locals do not know the identity of the woman except that she was from Andhra Pradesh,” said M. Anbu, special sub-inspector (SSI).

Police investigations in the area led them to the accused, an 18-year-old who works in a flower shop in the same area.
Eyewitnesses saw the boy ferrying the woman on his two-wheeler during the early hours of Thursday, the police said.
His bike (TN 19 E 3340) was found hidden near the lake area, a few km from his house on Kuyavar  street. He was subsequently taken into custody, according to an investigating officer.

The boy confessed to his crime saying that he sexually assaulted the woman and smothered her to death when he was
drunk.
“The woman attempted to escape by jumping off the moving bike and injured herself after which he smothered her and dumped the body in the bushes,” the police quoted the boy as saying.

The boy confessed to have committed a similar murder six months ago where he killed another destitute woman by smashing her face with a stone before escaping.
The boy was sent to the government home in Kellys, Chennai. “There were scratch marks and injuries on the woman’s chest and abdomen. “We are awaiting the final post-mortem report,” SSI Anbu added.
