Anantapur/Chittoor: The police department has decided to intensify the steps to curb red sanders smuggling from the Rayalaseema region.

The government has issued directions to arrest top smugglers, including local gangs, in the Rayalaseema districts. 

Meanwhile, the Chittoor police has detained two red sanders smugglers and seven of their assistants. The cops have recovered five vehicles, Rs 2.50 lakh in cash and 92 red sander logs worth Rs 1.20 crore during rides under Kallur, Vijayapuram and Puttur police station limits in the last two days.

The smugglers have been identified as K. Mani of TN and P. Omar of Kerala.
