Didn’t threaten Ravi with dowry harassment case: Hanumantharayappa, Kusuma
Father, daughter question Deccan Chronicle report
Bengaluru: Completely denying the reports published in Deccan Chronicle, Mr Hanumanthrayappa, the father-in-law of the late IAS officer D.K. Ravi, and Ms Kusuma, Mr Ravi’s wife, threatened that they would file a defamation suit, and file complaint with the Press Council of India against the newspaper.
The father-daughter duo was referring to the report that Mr Ravi was upset with Ms Kusuma as she had not revealed her past to him that she had allegedly eloped and secretly married her beau while in college.
Fuming at this newspaper, she demanded proof for her alleged elopement and hiding this truth from her husband.
She also said that neither she, nor her father threatened Mr Ravi with a dowry harassment complaint and demanded proof for it as reported in these columns.
Deccan Chronicle had reported the facts in the article with the headline Ravi’s last text: We’ll meet in our next life on its front page on March 20, with details as to what drove the upright and honest officer to suicide.
The facts were ascertained by authentic and highly placed sources in the cabinet, CID and cyber crime sleuths.
H.D. Kumaraswamy refers to Deccan Chronicle report in speech
Former Chief Minister Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy referred to a report in Deccan Chronicle while addressing a rally at Freedom Park on Friday.
While charging that the government was misusing the media by planting stories in them, Mr Kumaraswamy said: “In Deccan Chronicle... what a banner story.”
“I am not blaming all media. However, when the government ‘plants’ a story saying D.K. Ravi's wife had eloped earlier and her family members had hidden the fact from Mr Ravi, which he came to know later…what can we say. I am ashamed the government stoops to such low levels. I am not blaming all media, but reporters should be careful. They may plant the story today, but will not stand with you tomorrow, if things goes wrong,'” he said.
Deccan Chronicle stands by its report.
