Hyderabad: The ground navigation system at the Tirupati airport at Renigunta was struck by lightning during the heavy rains on Tuesday night resulting in the diversion of a flight on Wednesday morning. Hyderabad bound passengers were stranded for a few hours at the airport.

Tirupati airport director V.V. Rao said, “Due to the thunderstorm, the ground navigation lights were gone. The Spicejet flight from Hyderabad to Tirup-ati was diverted to Chenn-ai. The ground navigation aid called DVOR (Doppler VHF Omni Directional Range) was burnt due to induction affect. It will be repaired soon”
