On work front, Kamal recently sung a song for Ilaiyaraaja at half-an-hour's notice. The song was for the Pankaj Kapoor-starrer 'Happi', which is a tribute to Charlie Chaplin.
On the occasion, Kamal also launched a CD in memory of Srinivas.
Music Academy president N. Murali was also a part of the grand event.
Kamal Haasan, the chief guest of the concert, spoke highly about the musician and reminisced the good old days.
The event featured several musicians, including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Vikku Vinayakaram, Shankar Mahadevan, Aruna Sairam and Mandolin U. Rajesh, performed as a mark of respect.
Shrinivas was the first to bring the mandolin into the world of Carnatic music, inventing a distinct sound and reshaping the instrument.
Mandolin U Shrinivas passed away in September last year in Chennai after multiple organ failure.
