Oppose bail plea of Cooper, Thushar in HC

Kochi: The state police on Thursday submitted before Kerala High Court that they had  received information that CPI (Maoist) was planning to attack various government institutions and individuals through its Urban Action Team.

Director-General of Prosecutions T. Asaf Ali made the submission before the court while opposing the bail pleas of recently arrested activists Jaison C. Cooper of Fort Kochi and advocate Thushar Nirmal Sarathi, Palakkad,  having suspected Maoist links.

The DGP  submitted that the cops doubted  that Thushar and his associates were using the Janakeeya Manushyavakasa Prasthanam  as a cover to whitewash their bond and nexus with the CPI (Maoist).

The accused were learnt to be active members and sympathisers  of the banned organisation and were acting against the Constitution. The police had arrested the duo on January 29 and slapped section 13 (1), (b) of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on them.

According to the prosecution,  the accused have contacts with Sreekant Prabhakaran, Kasaragod,  the second accused in the recent Maoists’ Urban Action Team attack against the KFC outlet in Palakkad. Cooper also circulated the ideologies of the banned organisation.

Cooper also  circulated the ideologies of the banned organisation through the social media, the police said. The state submitted that the petitioners were suspected to be active members of the banned organisation and acting against the Constitution and democracy and the sovereignty of India.

The police submitted that Cooper possessed pamphlets narrating  ‘Armed revolution and violence against Indian constituency’ supporting the CPI (Maoist). Cooper was in regular contact with Thushar who is the active member of  ‘Janadhipathya Samrkashana Samithi.’ 

The police seized the minutes book of a meeting of the samithi which contains the documentation of the programmes of Maoists, like discussion on the recent activities of Maoist attacks and arrests of the accused in the attacks at the office of Nitta Gelatine and at McDonald and KFC in Palakkad, the proposed attack on toll booth and providing legal aid to the accused.

The police also seized a copy of the power attorney of Roopesh who is allegedly a member of ‘People Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA),’ an armed wing of CPI (Maoist) along with some pamphlets.
