Mumbai: Fans of megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Monday thronged the streets of Connaught Place here to catch a glimpse of their favourite actor, resulting in huge traffic snarls.

The 72-year-old actor was in the capital to promote his upcoming film "Shamitabh" along with co-stars Dhanush and debutante actress Akshara Haasan. The "Bhoothnath Returns" star attended a press conference in PVR Plaza and when he made his way out of the theatre, he was greeted by thousands of fans waiting outside to click a picture of the actor.

The crazy admirers were standing on the pillars and crowded the street thereby causing a chaotic situation outside the multiplex which was later managed by police. The actor, looking dapper in a brown bandhgala, waved his fans, who were hooting, as he somehow managed to make his way out of the place that was well guarded by bouncers. "He is so tall and good looking. He doesn't look his age.
I managed to click a picture of him," said a woman in her mid-30s, who was in the Connaught Place to shop.

Apart from Bachchan, the girls in the crowd went mad for the 'Raanjhana' star, who plays an actor in the R Balki- directed film. Dhanush, 31, donned a shimmery black suit with black shades. Akshara opted for a black leather jacket and jeggings. "I saw Dhanush. He was munching popcorn. He is starring opposite Akshara in 'Shamitabh'," a teenage girl told her friend. The chaos outside the multiplex gave a tough time to the police, who struggled to manage the crowd and traffic.
