Having heartburn for three weeks can be sign of cancer

Cancer is a deadly disease and if caught early you can reduce the maximum damage caused by it.

A new study has recently revealed that heartburn for three or more weeks can be sign of oesophageal or stomach cancer.

The study which reveals that only one in two people would visit their doctor if they had heartburn most days for three weeks or more, according to reports.

However, having the complaint this often can be a sign of oesophageal or stomach cancer, the campaign warned. Early diagnosis of oesophageal or stomach cancer - also known as oesophago-gastric cancers, was crucial and means treatment was more likely to be successful.

Here are the other signs that you need to keep a tab of to know the early signs of cancer: 

  • A persistent cough or hoarseness, a lump, diarrhoea or constipation

  • Unexplained weight loss or a sore that does not heal

  • Blood in vomit, urine or faeces, bleeding between periods

  • A feeling of not having fully emptied your bowels after going to the toilet are other signs

  • Moles with an irregular shape or jagged edges should be checked by a GP.
