Brussels: Belgian serial rapist, Frank Van Den Bleeken, will live to die another day after the doctor who was supposed to administer drugs for a permitted euthanasia, pulled out in the last minute. The reasons behind the physician’s reluctance remain unknown. Van Den Bleeken was scheduled to die from lethal injection on Sunday. He would be the first Belgian prisoner who has successfully argued to win assisted death.

According to psychiatrists, the 30-year-long imprisonment has taken its toll on Van Den Bleeken’s mind and has made him mentally ill. The convict has also been seeking a fresh course of treatment as he feels the therapy he’s getting now is of no help.

It is now possible that Van Den Bleeken could be transferred to a specialist clinic in the Netherlands, a country which remains open to euthanasia requests. However, a formal request from Belgium is yet to be made.
