Urban Vijayawada, Guntur brought in capital region
HyderabadThe urban areas of Vijayawada and Guntur have been brought under the limits of AP capital region with an eye on Central funding.

Earlier, the jurisdiction of the Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority  did not extend to the urban areas of Vijayawada and Guntur. The CRDA, which replaced the VGTMUDA with effect from December 30, 2014, has jurisdiction over the urban mandals of the twin cities.

The Centre has specified 40 lakh population as the bench mark for metropolitan cities that will get more funding under smart cities project. “There is also vibrant social life in Vijayawada and Guntur cities which was one of the reasons for CM N. Chandrababu Naidu to extend the capital region into the urban areas of these two cities,” said a source.
