Vijayawada, Tirupati & Nellore to get solar street lighting

At present the entire street lighting system in Visakhapatnam is under reconstruction

Vijayawada: Three cities in Andhra Pradesh- Vijaywada, Nellore and Tirupati- will soon have solar street lighting systems on the lines of Vishakhapatnam, P Narayana, Minister for Municipal Administration, said here.

Narayana was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the sewerage treatment plant at Autonagar here on Friday.

At present the entire street lighting system in Visakhapatnam is under reconstruction. Out of the total 96,000 street lights in Visakhapatnam already 85,000 have been converted into solar street lights, he said.

After the entire project is completed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it in Vizag. It is touted to one of the biggest solar street lighting projects in the world.

Once Visakhapatnam is over, lighting work would be taken up at Vijayawada, Tirupati and Nellore, the minister added.
