Heart flown from Bengaluru to Chennai in less than 4 hours for transplant

Bengaluru/Chennai:  Doctors in Bengaluru and Chennai have collaborated for a humanitarian cause. A live heart of a baby who died in a Bengaluru hospital on Friday is being transported to Chennai for transplantation.

Although the parents of the baby in Bengaluru broke down, they have decided to go ahead with the transplant and save the life of another baby in Chennai.

According to TV reports, a special flight has been arranged to fly the heart from Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru to Fortis Hospital in Chennai, where is it scheduled to be transplanted. The journey from Bengaluru to Chennai expected to be completed in less than four hours.

Police in Bengaluru assigned a team of 25 people to ensure traffic-free transport for the ambulance, from the hospital to the airport, a distance of about two kilometres.

Chennai police have also made special arrangements for quick movement to carry the heart from airport to the hospital.
