CHENNAI: The world’s largest human national flag was created in the city on Sunday. More than 50,000 Indians, comprising college students, corporate and office-goers stood together in the shape of the Indian flag, creating a new record for Guinness.“I feel very patriotic. I could not do anything great for the country but did the best I can. Each of us had to hold placards in different colours of the flag to make the formation. The five-minute period of holding the placard was difficult but made us happy,” said Avanthika Iyer, a third-year student of Shasun Jain college who took part in the event.


In all 1.5 lakh energetic Indians viewed this moment of pride at YMCA grounds.The previous record was held by Sports Club of Lahore with 28,957 people forming the Pakistani flag last year. Eminent personalities like Rotary International President Gary Huang, Nadigar Sangam president R. Sarath Kumar, theatre owner Abirami Ramanathan, Rotary District 3230 governor Isak Nazar, Madras University vice-chancellor R. Thandavan and Guinness official Seyda Subasi participated.
