Kochi: A railway staff, who was engaged in marking signals on the newly-laid track near Kanjiramattom railway gate, was run over by the Kollam-Vishakapatnam Special train.

C P Jayachandran (43), a resident of Balussery House, Chalakudy, died on the spot following the mishap at 12.50 noon on Friday.

“He was a track maintenance staff associated with the Chalakudy station. He was marking the signal number on the newly-laid track, about 100 meters from the railway gate.

Since there was a curve he noticed the train at the last minute. He could not evade  fast and was hit by the train,” police said. The Mulanthuruthy Police registered a case.
